Both older boys enjoyed racing cars as a hobby during their early years.
Mark began in Karting (as did so many Formula 1 drivers) when he was 11 , becoming runner up club and South Western Champion before he moved on to 750 Formula 750 motor club for 2 seasons, again being runner up Champion in 1980
He continued racing British FF2000 and formula 4 very successfully with the Delta race car and from 1985 onwards until he retired in 1996 due to family commitments, drove his Lola and Delta race cars in the Classic Formula Ford 2000, as well as the Historic with an Austin Healey 3000 and Jaguar XK 120 and the Monoposta with Reynard race cars.
All the race cars were prepared and set up in the workshop alongside the basic day to day motor engineering work.
